Languages24seven lay utmost emphasis on the quality of all the projects it undertakes. Quality Management is a crucial aspect of translation. To manage quality on projects, we at Languages24seven first understand the specific quality expectations of our client and then put a plan in place to meet those expectations. The most important elements of this plan are the quality control and quality assurance activities that are performed.
Quality Control : It refers to quality related activities associated with translation projects. It is used to make sure that the translation will be of good quality and that it will be complete and correct.
Quality Assurance : It refers to the process of granting approval to a project at our end before its delivery to the client.
The quality control comes into picture at the very first stage of a project when a client contacts us for the project. It is at this initial stage that we develop an understanding of the criteria of completeness and correctness of the project as per the client’s requirements. This helps in Quality Assurance of the project before it is delivered.
Quality Control Process of Languages24seven :
Our quality control process starts from the very first stage, where a project is reviewed before accepting it, continuing to the stage where it is finally approved and accepted by the client.
1. Accepting a project
We take into consideration the requirements and specialties involved along with the degree of difficulty of the project to complete it in timeframe set by the client. Then we do our individual analysis of the turn-around time for the given project keeping the various constraints in mind. Based on the analysis, if our turn around time falls within the time frame given by the client, only then the project is accepted.
2. Pre-translation
Our Project Managers review the client’s material and requirements thoroughly before starting a project. Wherever needed, they do some preliminary research to build a new Translation memory.
3. Translation
After a diligent review of the project, it is assigned to those translators in our team who possess both the necessary linguistic and specific subject matter expertise. They study all the instructions from the client. The Project Manager ensures that all the instructions are fully understood by the translation team before the job is started. The translation memories and glossaries brought into use are in concurrence with the concerned style guide provided by the client to assure consistency.
4. Referring to the client to make some points clear
Our project Managers stay in constant touch with the client for any clarification or answers that may be required from time to time. For example client’s specific short names and abbreviations, unclear context for occurrence of a word, etc.
5. Language review
Once the first draft of translation is done, it is compared against original documents to check for incorrect translations or omissions. This is done by another translator or a translation team. In this process, according to rules of technical writing, parts requiring so are rewritten to make them easier to read and understand.
6. Proofreading
This is a crucial step where the review of the translation against style guides and term lists is done. This is to ensure that the translated text is in the correct format, the style guides or terms lists are followed, and correct expressions are used.
Quality Assurance process of Languages24seven :
The Quality Assurance team checks and confirm that the quality control procedures were in place through out the translation process, right from the acceptance of the project to the final delivery. This consists of evaluating the final project against the completeness and correctness criteria defined in accordance with the client. |
